The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase has reiterated the desire of the present management team of the Nigeria Police to provide conducive accommodation to the Inspectors and Rank and file who are vulnerable to such need.

Mr Arase spoke in Yola Wednesday at the commissioning of One Hundred Semi-detached bungalows named Gambo Jimeta Police Housing Estate.

The Inspector General of Police, who was represented by the Adamawa State Police Commissioner, Ghazzali Mohammed announced that the housing estate is not a police barracks, but an estate that equally carter for the civic populace.

The Nigerian Police Mort Bank, the IGP announced has put in place a convenient home ownership package with easy repayment terms for the Mortgage to be deducted from the monthly emolument of the beneficiaries over an extended period of time.

According to the IGP, the project has brought immense economic benefits to the citizens of the State even as Adamawa Youths were fully engaged in the construction of the project.

He solicited for collaboration from the State Government in making the habitation of the estate by the police and members of the public a reality as it will foster good relationship in crime fighting.

Mr Solomon Arase also called on the Adamawa State Government to reconstruct and renovate the one story building recently destroyed by the unfortunate bomb explosion in the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Store in Jimeta which resulted in the displacement of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), State Quarter Master and two other departments of the police.

Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla of Adamawa stressed the importance of Housing especially for the rank and file of the police.

Jibrilla, who was represented at the ceremony by the State Head of Service, Barrister Musa Kaibo observed that it is not proper for the police rank and file to mix with the civilian populace to enhance crime fighting.

The Governor urged the top police hierarchy to extend the housing scheme to local governments as it is ready to give free land for such projects.

First batch of beneficiaries of the Housing Scheme were presented with keys to their houses at the ceremony.
