No fewer than 17 persons were confirmed dead and three others injured in an auto crash at Yaura village on the Wudil-Bauchi Road in the Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday.
Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kano.
He said the accident involved a Honda Accord car with registration number NSR 81 VW, and a Volkswagen Sharon (bus) with registration number NNG 275 XA.
He said a motorist passing by informed the FRSC patrol officials at about 14:20 pm, where a rescue team was immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident at 14:25 pm.
Abdullahi pointed out that the crash occurred due to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking which led to loss of control and head-on collision with one of the vehicles going up in flames instantly.
“The crash involved a total of 21 passengers in the two vehicles out of which 11 adult males, five adult females and one male child lost their lives, while three others that sustained serious injuries involved one adult male, one adult female and one male child,” he said.
The sector commander noted that the injured were taken to the Wudil General Hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were handed over to their relatives.
While commiserating with families of the victims, he prayed for the repose of their souls, and advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulation to maintain an accident-free society.
