In their various efforts for enduring peace between Benue and Taraba states, Governor Samuel Ortom and Darius Ishaku have resolved to ensure sustained synergy between the two states in order to warrant a huge free violence conduct of the 2019 general elections.
The two Governors stated this on Saturday in a communique issued at the end of the joint security meeting held at the Federal University Wukari, in Taraba state.
They also resolved to constitute a joint security committee made up of people of proven integrity and locals of the area between the two states to address the security challenges.
The meeting condemned in strong terms the spate of kidnapping, armed rubbery, as well as banditry involving armed youths in the two states, while it emphasized on the need for job creation as a fundamental tool in reducing unemployment and make the youth self reliant.
It also stressed the need adequate provision of logistics support to the security agencies by both the Federal and state governments to enable the sustained surveilance in the two nabouring states.
The communique further explained that, the joint security meeting stressed the need for communities/security collaborations by reporting all forms of criminality appropriately and not to shield criminal elements in both states.
However, also part of the resolutions reached at the meeting was the need for peaceful coexistence amongst boundary communities as well as community and security collaboration to so as to achieve enduring peace in the two states.
It mandated the Boundary Committees of the two states in conjunction with the National Boundary Commission to meet and ensure that boundary issues involving the two states are resolved.
Meanwhile, the joint security meeting had earlier undertook inspection visits to Aboako, Sai and Dogon-Gawa communities where they interacted with members of the public within the communities.
