The Forum made the condemnation at a Press briefing in Jalingo on Tuesday while reacting to the attack on the convoy of Taraba APC Governorship candidate Alhaji Sani Danladi by some armed youths group in Wukari town, allegedly said to be sponsored by the PDP Governorship candidate Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of the state.
Secretary of the Forum, Professor Abbas Bashir who read the text unbehalf of the Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Bakari said, since the attack was completely unprovoked, the state government should fish out and prosecute the perpetrators, while the victims should be compensated for their losses.
The Forum expressed deep concerned about the action by the armed youths group in Wukari, saying that they will no longer accept vicious circle to violence against their people whenever they ventured to the southern part of the state to canvass for votes.
The Chairman pointed out that, Prominent Politicians from the Southern Taraba like late Baba Adi, Obadiah Ando, Joel Ikenya and Chief David Sabo Kente among others have associated well with the people of Muri and have all campained freely for elections in the central and northern political zones without molestation, because they believe that it was their constitutional right to do so.
According to the Forum, since the so-called power shift to the southern part of the state, the government has continued to sow the seeds of discord among people, ostensibly to perpetuate power in the south, adding that electorates cannot be forced to vote for any particular candidate, because it is a game of democracy, a game of choice as well as a game of numbers.
Alhaji Abubakar Bakari also noted that, they are already experiencing the impact of delibrate state policies which were designed to promote hatred, ethno-religious differences and disharmony among people, pointed out that Muri as a nation of common history and destiny has never experienced this alarming rate of division and physical disagreement as witnessed in the last four years in the state.
However, the Forum recall that the latest attack on the APC Campaign team which included many prominent sons and daughters of Muri and their supporters was a similar incident occurred in the same Wukari during the regime of one of their son, former Governor of Taraba state Rev. Jolly Nyame, when a grenade was detonated at the government lodge where he was staying.
While appealing to their people to close ranks in the face of this delibrate plan to destabilize their communities for selfish interest, the Forum further stressed that the government must guarantee the rights of every person to move freely in the state to canvass for votes during the fourth coming general elections.
