Eminent Nigerians on Tuesday thronged Iye Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State to pay glowing tributes to the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, as he was buried in his country home.
Fasanmi, who was also a Second Republic Senator, died on July 29 at the age of 94.
A funeral service was earlier held at Saint John’s Anglican Church, Iye Ekiti.
In his tributes titled “Tribute to a Man of Integrity”, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, described Fasanmi’s contributions to the development of democracy as immeasurable, particularly his role in the National Democratic Coalition that battled the military to a standstill.
Fayemi disclosed that his administration was already constructing a secondary school to be named after the late Afenifere leader his contributions to the state during his lifetime.
“My only regret is that he has left us before the school will be officially inaugurated for academic activities when schools finally reopen,” the governor said.
Fayemi added that what attracted him to the late elder statesman was his integrity.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagements, Aderemi Adebowale, extolled Fasanmi for his incorruptible nature.
All Progressives Congress National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Abiodun Ogunleye, said Nigerians must learn from the late politician’s modest and Spartan lifestyle.
Tinubu described Fasanmi as a revolutionary and an outstanding politician worthy of being emulated.
Bishop of Ekiti Oke, Anglican Communion, Peter Olubowale, in his sermon described Fasanmi as an easy going individual throughout his lifetime.
