Jegede heads to tribunal, challenges Akeredolu’s election

Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the October 10 Ondo Governorship Election, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has challenged the results of the poll.

This is coming barely three weeks after the conduct of the election in the state.

Jegede on Friday approached the election petition tribunal to challenge the results of the poll.

Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, as the winner of the election, having scored the highest number of the total votes cast in the election.

INEC had said Akeredolu defeated Jegede and the candidates of other political parties in the poll.

But the PDP candidate said having studied the results and not satisfied, he had decided to go to the tribunal to challenge the results on Friday.

PDP state Publicity Secretary, Mr Kennedy Peretei, confirmed the development.

Jegede himself, in a terse message sent to our correspondent, said he had decided to break his 19-day silence since the conduct of the election by challenging the results in court.

The message read, “In the last 19 days I have been silent, today we break that silence in obedience to the provisions of our laws. We commence a challenge against the declaration and return made by INEC in respect of the Ondo State Governorship election f 10th October, 2020.
