Democratic institutions in Nigeria would be strengthened if local Government councils across the country are granted autonomy.
Alhaji Abdullahi Yapak, Adamawa state House of Assembly member representing Verre constituency, stated this while his constituency to mark Democracy day.
Yapak said, the current security challenges in the country is because the local government system has totally collapse.
Ànd appealed to his colleagues in the state houses of Assembly to ensure speedy implementation of autonomy for the third tier of government to arrest the current drift in the country.
Yapak, stated that the autonomy of the various tiers of government would streamline alot of issues in the country, in addition to making the system more efficient.
He challenged state Governors to hands off the affairs of local government councils in the interest of the country.
The member said the current dire situation in the local government councils is a matter of serious concern..
