Kenya, on Friday, denied involvement of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the arrest and extradition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Wilfred Machage, who expressed displeasure over reports that Kanu was arrested in his country, said Nigerians should ask the Federal Government to explain how the IPOB leader was apprehended and repatriated back to the country.
Kanu’s brother, Kingsley, had recently accused the Kenyan president and government of masterminding the arrest and extradition of Kanu, who jumped bail in 2017.
Kanu’s brother had also urged the British High Commission in Nigeria to ensure the IPOB leader’s release from custody.
There had been reports that the Kenyan President, Kenyatta, was privy to Kanu’s extradition.
But the Kenyan High commissioner, who addressed newsmen in Abuja on Friday, dismissed the allegations as untrue.
He said anyone with evidence linking his country to the incident should come forward with it.
The envoy said it’s libelous to link President Kenyatta to Kanu’s arrest.
Machage said, “I wish to categorically state that we are not happy at this ridiculous attempt of dragging the name of Kenya and President Uhuru Kenyatta in this matter of arrest and extradition of the self-proclaimed IPOB leader.”
