Firing Liverpool trash Burly Burnley

The 53,231 fans welcomed Liverpool back to Anfield after a 3-0 win over Norwich last week at Carrow Road statdium.

Two goals were just perfect to see the Reds to a second win in their high-flying 2021/2022 season that have seen the Jurgen Klopp men put five past their opponents without a reply.

After a topsy-turvy first seventeen minutes, Liverpool finally opened scoring through a Diogo Jota powerful header from a Konstantinos Tsimikas’ cross. The Portuguese is having a swell time this season after scoring his second goal this campaign in the 18th minute.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) however cancelled Liverpool’s hope of doubling their lead eight minutes later after a beautiful laid-back pass from the 18-year-old Harvey Elliot to set Salah free for a possible 99th goal but was eventually ruled-out for an offside.

Sadio Mane however doubled their lead after a crispy pass from Trent Alexander Arnold in the sixty-ninth minute to seal-off an eventual win.

Sean Dyche’s burly looking side had a complete Jersey number one to eleven in the line up, a record which was last held by Charlton Athletic in 1998.

The Clarets had their own share of chances but couldn’t put it past Allison Becker who made some wonderful saves in the contest.

Burnley broke Liverpool’s Anfield 68 game unbeaten record last season and were looking for back-to-back league wins at Anfield for the first time since 1897.

Jordan Herderson was back in the line-up after missing in action for 82 days and the Liverpool skipper had some tidy-ups in midfield. Greek left back Tsimikas had a scintillating performance while youngster Harvey Elliot had some eye-catching performances too in his Premier League Debut. Virgil Van Dijk alongside Joel Matip also had a good game.
