On the 1st October, the Embassy of Nigeria has organized a reception to celebrate the National Day of the country. The venue has been in the nice premises of the Hotel Pyramida
This event falls exactly on the 1st October and celebrates the independence of Nigeria from the British rulers. The President of the country commences the celebration in Abuja, and then many events follow in the various Nigerian towns and villages as well as around the world where institutional representations and Nigerian communities exist.
Nigeria is a country which has seen its importance growing also because of natural resources, oil in primis. There is a nourished Nigerian community in Prague and some of its members have joined dressed by traditional costumes.
The event has been launched by a speech of H.E. Kevin Peter, Ambassador of Nigeria in the Czech Republic, who has emphasized the concept of Love as the basis of human relationships and peace. Moreover, the Czech authorities have been represented by JUDr. Rudolf Jindrak Director of the Foreign office of the President. who has highlighted the importance of Nigeria as a strategic partner for the Czech Republic
The whole atmosphere has been friendly and informal with the hosting Ambassador inviting several times the guests (mostly Diplomats of other countries, Businesspersons and Nigerians in Prague) to refill their plates up with the abundant food offered. The guests have actually been offered a mix of European as well as Nigerian typical food, even if the large majority has opted for the Nigerian delicacies
The national colors, green (symbolizing wealth) and white (symbol of peace) have been present everywhere, with great visibility.
In harmony with the informal and friendly spirit of the event, a dj has played some enjoyable Nigerian rhythms for the public.
