Insecurity: Isa, Adamawa lawmaker sponsors a bill for a law  to establish State’s Security Trust Fund

The Speaker Adamawa State of Assembly Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas says the issue of insecurity is the business of every individual and called on the government to support security operatives for swift action.

Speaker Iya Abbas made the call Monday while declaring open a one-day public hearing organized by the house committee on security on a bill for a law to establish Adamawa State Security Trust Fund sponsored by the member representing Shelleng constituency Hon Abubakar Isa held at the committee room of the State Assembly Complex, Yola.

Represented by the deputy majority leader of the house Mr. Japhet Kefas of Gombi Constituency said the issue of insecurity is something that cannot be left to security agencies alone, adding that the house will continue to liaise with the state government to do its best in addressing the situation.

The sponsor of the bill who is the member representing Shelleng constituency Hon Abubakar Isa while presenting the general principles of the bill said the committee will ensure that the input of the stakeholders is considered to enable the house to enact an acceptable law that will improve the security of lives and properties of the citizenry in the State.

The lawmaker said the bill on a law to establish Adamawa State Security Trust Fund twenty will seek to provide for comprehensive means of generating funds and instilling diligence, transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the funding and management of State Security apparatus.

Abubakar Isa added that considering the backing of the Constitution under the relevant section it is important to look inward in other to find a lasting solution to the dwindling security situation in the State as it is not only necessary and timely but mandatory following the unprecedented level of insecurity.

He said the bill if passed into law will provide the objective of the fund which include providing funds for the acquisition and deployment of security equipment and effective functioning of all Federal, State, Local Government, and other security agencies operating in the State

Contributing separately, the representative of security agencies in the State, commended the state Assembly, particularly the sponsor of the bill Alhaji Abubakar Isa and other lawmakers noting that the bill if passed into law will bring tremendous improvement to the security situation in the State.

In their part, the representative of property owners, religious leaders nongovernmental organizations, and the board of internal revenue commended the House for initiating the bill and pledged their support.
