Nigerians thrown into darkness as national grid collapses again
For the third time in less than a month, the national electricity grid collapsed again on Friday throwing the entire country into darkness.
Recall that on March 14, the grid had collapsed at about 10:40am causing blackout in many parts of the country. It also suffered another collapse barely 24 hours later as it failed again on March 15.
Head, Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, confirmed in a statement on Friday that the grid collapsed at 6:29pm.
According to the statement, “Dear Esteemed Customers, the management of Kaduna Electric regrets to inform you that the current outage being experienced in our franchise states is due to a collapse of the national grid.
“The collapse occurred at about 18:29 pm this evening. Normal power supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is restored.
“We sincerely apologise for all inconveniences.”
Similarly, on Friday night, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the development in a message to its customers.
AEDC’s message read, “Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN. We regret all inconveniences caused.”
