Indications have emerged that odds favour the former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to emerge aa a consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress in South West in the coming presidential primary election.

This came even as a source from the party hinted that some elders in the region had started reaching out to other aspirants to step down for Tinubu.

The former Lagos State governor appears to be the strongest candidate from the region in the APC.

Though his candidature is facing a big threat from the aspiration of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, findings, however, revealed that Osinbajo himself may bow down to the elders and allow his boss to run for the position.

A source who spoke with our correspondent on anonymous ground, said, “Tinubu may finally come out from the South-West as consensus candidate because the elders in the region have been talking to other aspirants. We all know that he is the biggest candidate from the region even if not across the country, but giving him the chance and rallying round him will also be better. That is why some elders in Yorubaland and the party have been talking to other aspirants and the efforts may yield expected result before the primaries”.

Meanwhile, in what looks like a confirmation of the development, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in South West would soon arrive at a consensus candidate for the forthcoming primary election.

Osinbajo said this during an interactive section with the party’s delegates in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Friday.

According to him, consultations are ongoing to arrive at a consensus candidate.

He said, “I believe strongly in the wisdom of Yoruba elders and leaders, and consultations are always ongoing.

“I believe that very soon we will resolve whatever differences exist and we will reach an agreement on the way forward.”
