Contrary to the perception of many in Adamawa state that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Finriri is not in support of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

Fintiri however said yesterday he is confident that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will emerge as the presidential flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections.

Governor Fintiri made this known while fielding questions from newsmen at the Yola International Airport on Sunday.

He said that the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is the best person to fly the party’s ticket and that his team has already set machinery in place to canvas for support across the country and ensure that Atiku gets the party’s ticket.

“Politics is local. Whether you’re aspiring for the smallest or the highest position, you must have the base, which is home. This we have provided for our leader the former Vice President in his aspiration for the presidency of Nigeria for the 2023 general elections.

“We have started the scheming, working, and canvassing for support, and very soon you’ll see him emerging as the flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the ATM governor said.

He said that with Atiku, the unity of Nigeria will be sacrosanct and the issue of insecurity will become a thing of the past. He said, “Atiku has the experience and he understands the dynamics of this try and I believe he will be able to close the gap and bring us together as a nation and that will solve part of the security challenges we are facing in this country.”

Atiku who also contested against President Buhari on the platform of the PDP in 2019 has again recently declared his intention to run for the office of the president.

During the declaration in Abuja, Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri was the only PDP governor present at the declaration, a move that has doused the tension and cleared speculations of a rift between the two.
