As the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his group continue to tackle Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level over alleged injustice, crisis has erupted in Adamawa State chapter of the party over alleged impositions of candidates during the last primaries.
The Adamawa chapter of PDP, the home state of former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is at war as aggrieved members are threatening to capsize the ship at the polls if quick actions are not taking to placate them.
The Chairman of the Round table of House of Assembly Aggrieved Aspirants (RTHoAAA), Adamawa PDP, Joel Swuthirbra, told journalists in Yola that House of Assembly aspirants under PDP were unlawfully treated, saying there is no primary election, but that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and other party chieftains imposed their allies on the party.
Joe said: “The PDP purported House of Assembly primary in Adamawa was a fraud; it does not represent the motto of the party, which is justice, unity and progress.
“What we saw was injustice and show of power by some individuals in the party.
“The Adamawa PDP crisis has reached crescendo, and it will soon fade out at the risk of those who are enjoying the injustice now. Many that contested have left the party, but some of us want to exhaust all guidelines of crisis resolution as stipulated by party constitution,” he stated.
An eight-paged document signed by eight members of the aggrieved group, submitted to the party leadership in Adamawa, stated: “The root cause of the party’s failure in 2015 general elections was due to imposition of candidates by stakeholders and powerful individuals within the party.
“The same unlawful and unpopular system was adopted in the state in the last House of Assembly primary.”
The document pointed out that what brought Adamawa PDP into power in 2019 was lack of justice in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party primaries.
“What transpired in the just concluded PDP primaries of the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship was rather unfortunate and undemocratic to a party wishing to win election.”
“No sales of delegates form to interested delegates was conducted in Adamawa as provided for by guidelines of the party for primary elections. No delegates election was also conducted in the state.”
