Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, gave Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) a better rating than other front-runners for the presidency in 2023.
The former governor of Anambra has advantages that others lack, according to Ezekwesili, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
“Somebody says to you between a cast of possible presidents that include the three frontrunners that we currently have – a possible President Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi – do you need anybody to tell you where you would be going? It would be an Obi.”
Ezekwesili criticised the current political system, to which she claims the Labour Party’s nominee belongs, while ranking Obi higher than other leading contenders.
“Regardless of the fact that he comes from that particular political class that we are talking about, he still at least represents many more shapes than the other two top candidates (in reference to Atiku and Tinubu),” she added.
The majority of Obi’s supporters are young people, which the former minister claimed is evidence that Nigerian politics have evolved.
She also blamed poor leadership for Nigeria’s main issue, claiming that this impeded the nation’s development. But she thinks that the country’s current political awakening, particularly among young people, will change the scene.
“Sometimes, I just imagine what leadership will be in the country if they just listened (to youths),” she noted.
She believes that the enthusiasm displayed by young people at the #EndSARS protest is proof of what they are capable of.
She made her remark just a day after Obi’s supporters marched throughout the nation to show their support for the Labour Party candidate.
The protest was held in London, the UK, Lagos, Edo State, Delta, Kaduna, Bauchi State, and other states around Nigeria.
