A group, Arewa Mandate Initiative says Northern politicians nursing presidential ambition should shelve it in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress and national unity.
AMI said many Northern youths in the APC had reached a consensus that the party should zone the 2023 presidency to the South.
In a statement jointly signed by AMI Coordinators, Malam Muhammad Mubarak and Alhaji Aminu Muhammed, the group said the consensus was reached after months of consultations with youth groups and major stakeholders in the APC spread across all the three geo-political zones of North West, North Central and the North East.
The statement read in part, “While AMI recognises the right of all Nigerians to seek any elective office of their choice, it would however urge Northern politicians to let go off their presidential ambition as part of their own sacrifice for the unity and stability of Nigeria.”
The group said it had identified on some individuals that might be acceptable to fly APC’s flag during the 2023 presidential election.
