2027: Adamawa Erupts as Supporters Buy ADC Form, Urge Sen. Bindow to Run for Governor

The political landscape of Adamawa State erupted in excitement on Monday as a coalition of supporters purchased the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship nomination form for former Governor Senator Muhammadu Umar Jibrilla, popularly known as Senator Bindow, and passionately urged him to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Hundreds of enthusiastic supporters, drawn from across the 21 local government areas, converged on the ADC state secretariat in Yola, waving banners and chanting “Bindow for Governor.”

In a dramatic move, a delegation led by prominent party leaders and community elders presented the nomination form, purchased at a reported cost running into tens of millions of naira, to the former governor.

Speaking to journalists on behalf of the group, a leading supporter and businessman, Alhaji Musa, declared: “Adamawa is crying for a leader with proven capacity. Bindow transformed the state during his tenure from 2015 to 2019. We cannot afford to sit back while the state faces mounting challenges. Today, we have bought the form; we now urge him to accept the call of the people and rescue Adamawa once again.”

Senator Bindow, who served as governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) before later joining the ADC in 2025, has not yet formally declared his intention. However, sources close to him indicate he is considering the overwhelming demand. His tenure as governor is remembered for significant infrastructure projects, including road constructions, healthcare improvements, and educational initiatives that endeared him to many residents.

The development has sent shockwaves through Adamawa’s political circles, especially amid growing opposition activities within the ADC. The party has been positioning itself as a formidable alternative, attracting heavyweights including former Senate President David Mark allies and other defectors. Recent court rulings on party congresses have added to the tension, but supporters remain undeterred.

Many view Bindow’s potential candidature as a major boost for the ADC in the Northeast.

“Bindow brings name recognition, administrative experience, and a track record that cuts across party lines,” said Alhaji Mohammed, a respected party member in Madagali. “His entry could reshape the 2027 contest”.

Reactions have poured in from across the state. In Mubi, Bindow’s political base, youth groups organized street rallies, while women associations in Yola distributed campaign materials.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s camp has remained measured, with spokespersons reiterating the administration’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy. Yet, the buzz around Bindow highlights deep-seated sentiments for a return to “proven leadership.”

As the clock ticks toward 2027, all eyes remain on Senator Bindow. Will he heed the clarion call? His decision could define the next chapter in Adamawa’s political history. For now, the state is alive with anticipation, as the former governor’s supporters vow to mobilize massively if he accepts the draft.
