Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has presented Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The presentation follows Governor Sule’s endorsement of Senator Wadada as his preferred successor.
Governor Sule made the initial announcement on Thursday during a meeting with political appointees and governorship aspirants at the Government House in Lafia.
He explained that the decision came after over a year of wide consultations with stakeholders, including investors, youth and women groups, traditional rulers, party leaders, and representatives from the state’s three senatorial zones.
According to the governor, the process was narrowed down to three viable aspirants before Senator Wadada was selected as the preferred choice.
“We had to look for people who have the capacity to win this election,” Governor Sule said.
He commended aspirants from Nasarawa West Senatorial District for their maturity, noting that they collectively agreed to support whoever emerged as the preferred candidate.
Governor Sule described Senator Wadada as the embodiment of the “Muje Maha” spirit of unity and inclusivity that has guided his own administration.
Senator Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West and chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, recently defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC in August 2025.
He welcomed the endorsement, describing it as “a call to higher service” and urged all APC members to remain united ahead of the 2027 polls.
The move by Governor Sule is seen as a strategic step to ensure a smooth succession and maintain APC dominance in Nasarawa State.
However, some reports indicate there may be disquiet within the party, with other aspirants, including former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, said to be considering contesting the ticket at the primary election.
The presentation to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa is expected to secure high-level backing for Senator Wadada’s emergence as the APC flag bearer in Nasarawa State for the 2027 governorship race.
