The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has reaffirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a registered member of the party under its leadership, while dismissing as fake a wave of campaign posters linking him to different political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

The faction disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, warning Nigerians against associating Jonathan with any political platform outside the PDP.

In the statement titled “Beware of Fake GEJ Campaign Posters,” the faction said posters circulating on social media falsely portrayed Jonathan either as a presidential aspirant or paired him with other notable Nigerians as running mates under various political parties.

“Campaign posters bearing the photographs of President Goodluck Jonathan, either alone or paired with other notable Nigerians as running mates, have emerged and are being circulated widely on social media platforms,” the statement read.

According to the faction, the posters also falsely suggested that the former president belonged to political parties whose logos appeared on the materials.

The Turaki-led PDP maintained that Jonathan recently participated in the party’s digital membership registration exercise and personally confirmed his membership status during a meeting with members of the Interim National Working Committee.

“We state categorically that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party under the capable leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN),” the statement added.

“He duly registered personally in his ward during the recently concluded digital membership registration exercise — a fact he personally confirmed to members of the Interim National Working Committee during a meeting with him on Saturday.”

The faction explained that the clarification became necessary in view of the provisions of Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which prohibits double political party registration.

It further alleged that some individuals could attempt to manipulate political party databases by registering prominent politicians in multiple parties without their consent.

“We are aware that mischief makers may not only design and circulate fake campaign posters, but may also, in concert with highly placed collaborators, attempt to input the details of President Jonathan and other prominent members of our party and the opposition movement into the databases of different political parties,” the statement said.

The PDP faction subsequently called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and the general public to disregard any fraudulent political activities involving Jonathan’s name or identity.

“We therefore put the public, especially the INEC, on notice of this malfeasance and urge them to discountenance any such fraudulent activity,” the statement concluded.
