Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reviewed the curfew regime imposed on the three local government areas of Yola North, Yola South and Girei to checkmate the activities of Shila Boys and other miscreants in the society using Tricycles and Motorcycles.
The curfew which usually starts from 10pm to 5am will henceforth commence from 11pm to 5am daily during the period of the Ramadan Fast.
According to Humwashi Wonosikou, governor Fintiri’s press secretary, the review takes immediate effect.
It may be recalled that the state government had on February 2nd imposed a night curfew on the three Councils through, “the Adamawa State Restriction of Movement of Tricycles/Motorcycles Executive Order No.1 of 2021″.
The order is meant to check the excesses of hoodlums terrorising the areas prescribing a sentence of six months imprisonment with an option of fine or both in addition to forfeiting the tricycle or motorcycle.
” The review of the restriction of movement is necessitated by the desire of the government to allow Muslim faithful observe unhindered Tafsir at their various Mosques during the Ramadan period,” the statement partly said.
The governor however, directed security agencies to beef up security across the state especially in the three councils of Yola North, Yola South and Girei by deploying more service personnel to keep watch and ensure the security of lives and property of residents.
Governor Fintiri warned that anybody found breaching the peace will be dealt with accordingly.
“Security agencies will continue to discharge their duties and residents are urged to cooperate with them to maintain the status of our state as one of the most peaceful,” Fintiri said.
While wishing the Muslim Ummah a peaceful Ramadan, the Governor advised them to adhere to the guidelines of COVID-19, which include the use of protective face masks in public places.
“We urge residents to maintain social distancing in public gatherings, regular hand washing and use of sanitizers.
“I appeal to residents not to encourage any action that may turn back the clock, but to keep living in harmony and strengthen the unity that we are known for,” the statement added.
