34 Shila armed youths surrendered their weapons in Yola

The rate of crime associated with the activities of armed youths called Shila in Jimeta metropolis of Adamawa State will reduce drastically with the renouncement of 34 members of the group and
surrendering of their weapons.

Members of the group who were armed with dangerous weapons have been terrorizing residents of the town by snatching their handsets and
women’s hand bags in a broad day light.

They sometimes inflicted injuries on their victims who refuse to surrender their handsets or bags to them.Some of the weapons surrendered included sharp knives, Cutlasses and bullet cathriges.

One those who renounced their membership is Aliyu and said:

“initially we are in car wash business but the borehole we are using got spoiled and we have exhausted all efforts to ensure the reactivation of the borehole but to no avail and we have no option than to engaged in the act”.

He however regretted their actions and vowed not repeat it again, called on other youths who are in the group to renounce their membership and surrender their arms for peaceful coexistence.

In a remark, the District Head of Jimeta, who is also Dan Isa Adamawa Alh. Muhammadu Baba Paris expressed satisfaction with the efforts made
by the Village Head of Demsawo for persuading the youths to surrender their weapons and renounced their membership.

The Royal father enjoined other Village Heads within Jimeta District to key in the steps taken by the Village Head of Demsawo for peace to reign, adding that a strong committe will be set up to be headed by the Village Head of Demsawo to ensure compliance of riding the domain out of miscreants.

Also speaking, the Village Head of Demsawo who spearhead the action Alh. Muhammadu Baba vowed to ensure that no miscreants exist in his domain and called on parents to cooperate with the move for peace to reign in the area.

He lamented that people are being harassed, molested and robbed in the day time by the armed youths which is uncalled for, saying henceforth any parents who are shielding their actions will face wrath of the law.

He thanked members of Vigilante group and Chusal for their rendering humanitarian security services in the area and urged them to sustain the spirit.
In theri separate spechees, Commissioner for Land and Survey, who also oversees Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology Alh. Yayaji Mijinyawa, onetime Chairman Yola North local government

Alh. Salihu Baba Ahmed charged the people to cooperate and support the initiative of the Village Head of Demsawo and security agencies to nip
any security breach in a bud.

Also in their remarks, Commander Chusal Shehu Sa’ad Jimeta and Assistant Commander Vigilante group in the area Hassan Buba Rasha applauded the efforts of traditional institutions to ensure total
elimination of miscreants in the area and urged the Police to maintain the spirit of working together for the success of the fight against crime and criminality.

DSP Habib Mohammed from the Doubeli division of the Nigeria Police Force urged other Village Head to emulate that of Demsawo and commended Vigilante group and Chusal for complimentary role in
maintaining peace in the area.

Shila group is becoming a monster dreadfully attacking people and defrauding them of their valuables,in some instances rapping women at gun points
