The Adamawa State Chief Vehicle Inspector Officer (VIO) Mr Abdullahi Mahdi, says no fewer than 41 vehicles’ drivers and tricycle operators failed the driving test in 2020 in the state.
Mahdi disclosed on Thursday in an interview with Newsmen in Yola.
Mahdi, who is the Acting Director, Adamawa State Road Traffic Administrator, said that in the year under review, the Traffic department had impounded 151 vehicles.
He explained that the vehicles were impounded in connection with various traffic offenses, adding that the department also recorded 15 motor accidents during the period.
” In the year under review, a total of 440 vehicle’s drivers and 216 tricycle’s operators undergone driving test across the state in 2020.
“Out of the number., 15 drivers and 26 tricycle’s operators failed the driving test respectively.
“And the department has impounded 151 vehicles in connection with various traffic offenses, as well as recorded about 15 accidents,” Mahdi said.
He said that in the year under review, the unit had organized sensitization and campaign awareness to commercial, tipper, trailers, and tricycles drivers and operators in the 21 local government areas of the state.
Mahdi, listed lack of patrol vehicles, operational facilities, understaffed, and delay of the passage of new traffic laws by the State Assembly as among the constraints affecting the department’s performance.
He attributed the rate of vehicle accidents to speed, reckless driving, lack of proper maintenance of vehicles, and ignorance of road traffic and signs.
He urged motorists and other road users to always ensure the safety condition of their vehicles and obey road rules and regulations to protect lives and property.
“Any road user found wanting, the department will be dealt with,” Mahdi said.
