As mark of activities in commemoration to celebrate International day for First aids,the Adamawa state Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has trained 450 youths on humanitarian service delivery.
Branch Secretary of the Society (NRCS),Mr. Shuaibu Dauda while answering questions from journalists in Yola Weekend said the capacity building training was deliberately organised as part of the organisation drive to change the wrong perception of the public towards the activities of the Red Cross in our communities.
Dauda observed that many Nigerians are having wrong perception about Nigerian Red Cross Society taking it as a religious based organisation noting that Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation devoid of any religious affiliation rather open to all and sundry for rendering humanitarian assistance to people in need always.
Dauda stated that,the 450 volunteers were registered from the 21 local government areas in the state and officially camped at the NYSC Damare’s camp from 4th to 11th September where professional basic first aid trainings were administered to them.
“This is our fourth (4th) annual first aids camp in commemoration with International Day for First Aids as set aside by the United Nations to be observed every year’s 10th of September.
“So we started our branch’s celebration by cramping and training our teeming registered volunteers on the basics of First aids,even though this Year’s anniversary is unique because we invited other organisations like Federal Road Safety Corps, Man ‘o War and other faith based organisations.
“One of the significance of the camp training is to showcase our humanitarian service delivery and roles expected to be played by members of the public during accident or calamity situations in our societies”. Dauda stressed.
The Yola Branch Secretary however appealed to the government and well to do in our societies to support the Red Cross Society organisation with a view to do more in humanitarian service delivery drive calling on the public to join the firm for humanitarian service.
Speaking on their reasons for joining the humanitarian organisation,Suleiman Habib Adam and Kamawu Joshua said they offered themselves basically to contribute their quotas in giving back to the society in their little contributions without expecting anything in return.
Our correspondent reported that the Volunteers were subjected to series of activities including road walk and assimilation of accident scene drama with the roles suppose to be played by first aiders based on the seven (7) foundamental principles of the organisation.
