Tuesday’s House of Representatives plenary was suspended due to a loss of power in the lower house.
After the power went out, Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, was forced to declare a break.
The development caused the politicians to leave the room in the dark while using the flashlight apps on their phones.
The national grid crashed for the hundredth time in 2022, the day before, causing blackouts in several major Nigerian cities, including the financial hub Lagos and the political center Abuja.
In announcements made to their clients, several electrical distribution firms verified the development.
The national grid fell on Monday at 10:50 a.m., according to Ikeja Electric, which also noted that the development damaged the transmission stations inside its network and resulted in the cessation of power supply to their consumers.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company also apologised for having to alert customers of a system collapse on the national grid at exactly 10:52 am.
