UN Women Media Network: Journalists in Adamawa Move For Passage Of GEO Bill

About 74 UN Women Media network extensively discussed on the passage of Gender equality opportunity (GEO) Bill before the Adamawa state house of assembly.

The Journalists who met in Yola at the NUJ conference hall,worried at the way and manner the legislators are lagging the passage of the Bill which is at level of second reading.

The Journalists show remorse concerned with gender and security issues most importantly, the GEOB before the Adamawa State House of Assembly that’s not speeding up to third reading.

The meeting which was facilitated by United Nations Women media network mostly from Adamawa state, north eastern Nigeria.

Comrade Zare Baba of the UN Women media network in his presentation, said the media is a critical partner in the passage of the bill, which has passed second reading in the state assembly.

He urged journalists to have the passion to promote gender related issues as issues affecting women largely go unreported or are underreported.

Also speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dean Peter, a member of the UN Women Media Network, said Adamawa is a pilot state in the implementation of United Nations resolution 1325 stressing the need journalists to actively participate in the move.

Two other resource persons, Billy Graham Abel and Solomon Kumanga, who spoke on issues relating to women, identified stereotype, religion and culture as impediments in reporting women issues.

Representative of Search For Common Ground, co-facilitators of the meeting, Isaac Maiums appreciated the participants for attending the meetings and urged them to make use of the resolutions reached towards improving on the plight of women.
