The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have declared an indefinite and total strike from the Thursday 3rd of October over what they called non-challant attitude and refusal of the Federal Government to take steps to assuage workers’ suffering following the petroleum subsidy removal.

The decision was taken after after the Joint National Executive Council and National Administration Council Meeting of the NLC and TUC in Abuja,
The unions urged Nigerians to stock their homes with sufficient foodstuff that would last time during the period of the shutdown next week.

The two labour centres directed all their affiliates and state councils to begin mobilisation ahead of the industrial action.

The NLC had met with the Federal Government last week but the meeting ended in deadlock as the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement.

NLC had also embarked on a two-day warning strike on September 5 in protest of what it described as Federal Government’s failure to solve the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.(Radio Nigeria).
