As the 2027 general elections approach, the people of Madagali/Michika Federal Constituency in Adamawa State will reflect on the performance of their representatives. Among them is Hon. Zakariya Dauda Nyampa, a legislator whose tenure has been marked by significant efforts to address the constituency’s needs.

Nyampa also secured funding for solar-powered streetlights in several towns, which residents say have improved safety and extended business hours. While these efforts have been impactful, some areas still await similar upgrades, reflecting the scale of infrastructure needs.
Education is another area where Nyampa has left a mark. He has overseen the building of 12 classroom blocks in primary and secondary schools, equipped with desks and learning materials. A scholarship program has supported over 300 students from low-income families to attend tertiary institutions. John Bulus, a farmer in Madagali, shared, “My son is studying engineering because of the scholarship. It’s changed our lives.”
Additionally, Nyampa distributed 10,000 exercise books, 2,000 school bags, and other supplies, which local educators credit with reducing dropout rates. Teacher training initiatives have also been introduced. However, some argue that more schools need attention, and sustaining these programs will require ongoing funding.
Healthcare access in Madagali/Michika has seen improvements under Nyampa’s watch. He has supported the upgrade of five primary healthcare centers, equipping them with diagnostic tools, beds, and essential drugs.
Quarterly mobile health outreaches have provided free services, including malaria treatment and maternal care, to over 5,000 residents in remote areas. Hauwa Idris, a mother of three in Shuwa, said, “We used to travel far for treatment. Now, care is closer.” Nyampa also distributed mosquito nets to 2,000 households, contributing to lower malaria cases. While these steps have eased burdens, healthcare challenges like staffing shortages and specialist care remain, indicating areas for further focus.
Nyampa has prioritized youth development, training 850 young people in skills like tailoring, carpentry, welding, and ICT, and providing startup kits. Ibrahim Hassan, a 27-year-old welder, said, “I run my own shop now because of the training and tools I received.”

In the National Assembly, Nyampa has been active, sponsoring or co-sponsoring several bills and motions. Notable among them are the Rural Development and Infrastructure Bill (2022), aimed at directing resources to rural areas, and the Primary Healthcare Accessibility Bill (2023), focused on improving rural health facilities.
He also backed the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Bill (2024) and the Climate Resilience and Adaptation Bill (2024), addressing desertification and flooding concerns relevant to Adamawa. Motions like the one for enhanced security in insurgency-affected areas (2022) led to increased military presence in Madagali, while another on agricultural subsidies (2023) supported farmers with fertilizers.
These efforts show Nyampa’s engagement with both local and national issues, though the passage and implementation of some bills remain pending, a common challenge in Nigeria’s legislative process.
Nyampa’s current projects include installing 10 solar-powered boreholes for water access, , and expanding youth training to reach 500 more individuals by 2026.
These align with the constituency’s needs but face hurdles like funding constraints and logistical complexities. While Nyampa’s supporters highlight his accessibility—through regular town hall meetings—others note that expectations remain high, given the region’s longstanding challenges like insecurity and economic hardship.
His legislative work has amplified Madagali/Michika’s voice, addressing issues from security to climate change. Residents like Maryam Usman, a teacher in Gulak, value his presence: “He understands our struggles because he’s here with us.”
However, no leader is without critique. Some constituents point to gaps—remote villages still lack roads, schools need more resources, and job creation hasn’t fully tackled unemployment. These reflect broader systemic issues, but they shape perceptions of Nyampa’s record.
