The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba has promised to support the public lecture on “The Role of New Media in Nation Building” been organized tomorrow by Arewa Online Publishers Association (AOPA).
The VC made the pledge when he received the leadership of the association who were on courtesy visit to his office last week Thursday.
Professor Garba, urged the group to ensure that they place professionalism at the center of all they do and also join hands with every meaning stakeholders in fighting the menace of fake news which he said is gradually eating deep into the fabrics of the Nation.
He noted that fake news is gradually taking over the media space and there is need for professional journalists to take charge of the social media space.
He therefore commended the association for coming up with the group and also hosting the public, which according to him will help in making the public understand the positive aspect of using the social media in Nation’s development.
The maiden Public Lecture and Award Presentation by AOPA comes up tomorrow Wednesday 27th Nov. 2019 in Kaduna, with Prof. Umaru Pate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) being the lead paper presenter.
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-rufa’i will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event while, Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, will be the Royal Father of the day.
Earlier, the General Coordinator of the Association, Chief Dominic Uzu, told their host that they were in his office to intimate him with the upcoming programme and also to let him know that he has been nominated as the best Vice Chancellor in Nigeria.
“After a team of panelists went through the achievements of over ten Vice Chancellors in Northern Nigerian Universities, the ABU VC.tops the list.
“Sir there is no doubt that in the last four years here in ABU, you have done a lot both in academic and infrastructural development in the institution, and all these are noticeable.
“Your footprint in this University has given you a great image both National and Internationally and this award is our own little way of identifying and appreciating a noble achievement,” Chief Uzu added.
