Adamawa 2027: Kumangar Calls on APC Aspirants to Step Aside for Salihu Bakari Girei

A prominent APC chieftain and former Director General of Media to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Kumangar, has urged all governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State to shelve their ambitions and adopt Salihu Bakari Girei as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Kumangar, who also served as Permanent Secretary in the Adamawa State Ministry of Information and Strategy, made the call in a statement on Saturday, emphasising that the move is necessary in the interest of competence, party unity, and the overall development of the state.

According to him, allowing multiple aspirants to continue in the race would only weaken the APC’s chances against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027, as internal rivalry could overshadow merit and capacity.

“Bakari Girei possesses the requisite experience, discipline, and proven track record that Adamawa needs at this critical time,” Kumangar stated.

He traced Bakari’s career from his early days as a classroom teacher, where he showed deep commitment to education and human capital development, to his impactful tenure as Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB).

During his time at ADSUBEB, Bakari was credited with driving key reforms that improved access to quality basic education, strengthened institutional frameworks, and enhanced accountability in resource management.

Kumangar further highlighted Bakari’s contributions at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), where he played a significant role in policy formulation and programmes that supported infrastructure development and capacity building across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“These are verifiable records of service that clearly set him apart from the others. None of the other aspirants can boast of a similar breadth of experience and measurable achievements,” Kumangar asserted.

He warned that the APC risks diminishing its electoral prospects if it fails to prioritise competence over personal ambition, stressing that rallying behind a single credible candidate would position the party as a formidable alternative in the 2027 polls.

Kumangar appealed to APC leaders, stakeholders, and all governorship aspirants in the state to put aside individual interests for the collective good of the party and the people of Adamawa.

“Adopting a consensus candidate like Salihu Bakari Girei will reduce internal friction, promote unity, and enable the party to focus on crafting and presenting a clear, compelling development agenda to the electorate,” he said.

He concluded that Adamawa is at a crossroads and urgently requires leadership with proven capacity, vision, and integrity to drive sustainable development and improve the welfare of its citizens.

The call comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum in the state, with several APC heavyweights already indicating interest in the governorship race.
