Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has with great concern dispelled a trending social media rumour of bribing State’s Lawmakers one hundred and twenty million naira (N120,000,000) for tenure extension.
ALGON Leadership through its Chairman Honourable Jingi Rufai alongside other officials of the union addressed Media men at their Secretariat in Yola condemning the purported allegations.
Jingi while addressing journalists narrated with dismay how faceless individual(s) will propagate a false and malicious information that “Tenure extension for Local Government Councils in Adamawa, a festive moment for state legislators.”
He said the fabricated information was not only a hoax, but a handy work of mischievous elements that always feast on misinformation,fake news,libel, blackmail and character assassination.
“All Government activities are being run under principle of Justice, accountability,prudence,rule of law and checks and balances for development to flourished.
“But it has come to our notice and the good people of Adamawa State with total dismay, how some unscrupulous individuals circulating false information that,Local Government Chairmen last Monday mobilized the sum of N120million through ALGON and delivered to our respected Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas to lobby for tenure extension for another six months.
“This is not only disgusting,but malicious, libelous, disparaging and undemocratic because no any individual or institution that will allowed such kind of irresponsibility.
“There is no even a single Chairman nor the leadership of ALGON that involved in such shady deal.” Jingi said
He called on the media to communicate to their teaming people of Adamawa State, the true position of things for the growth of the country’s nascent democracy and cordial relationship existing between all Arms of government, under the leadership Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who is doing well for the state.
For the purposes of putting the records straight, Rufai said the tenure of local government Chairmen in Adamawa State may elapsed on 8th December 2021.
According to him they were democratically elected under the rulling peoples Democratic party (PDP) to deliver dividends of democracy as enshrined in the development agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
He Praised the All the 21 local government Chairmen to have performed above board by impacting positively on lives of people at the grassroot.
He said feat can be attributed to the level playing ground and autonomy demonstrated by the present led administration in adamawa state, particularly the Executive, Legislator and the judiciary.
“The Honourable Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly,under the Speaker,Aminu Iya Abbas, are also united with a common front of giving adamawa,the desired legislation irrespective of party affiliations.
“It is religiously and morally wrong for the ‘paid writer’ to mentioned the name of our highly respected Speaker, and if caught, the law must take it’s cause.
“The ALGON condemned in totality,an attempt to smear the good imagine of it’s members and Our respected lawmakers.
“As the third tier of government,our staff enjoys regular salaries and their promotions goes simultaneously.
All local government Chairmen executes projects according to the laid down rules.
“We thanked His Excellency the Executive Governor of Adamawa State,Rt.Hon.Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the speaker and the entire lawmakers as well as the good people of Adamawa State for the mandate given to us to served as local government Chairmen.
“We will continue to demonstrate our loyal and justice to present led administration in the state,till the end of our tenure.”

Already, those leaving office had last Monday, mobilised the sum of N120,000, 000.00 through the monster of ALGON and delivered to the speaker Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas. The amount is meant to bribe the House to extend their tenure by 6 months. Inside sources revealed that, the Speaker narrowly escaped impeachment on that very day, as he hid N70Million and presented N50M for sharing including himself again. Some of the members contacted ALGON leadership who confirmed the initial figure of N120Million.
However, we are glad to learn that His Excellency is not going to extend a day for them. That is a welcome democratic development. And if we should advise, let heads of local govt Administration oversee the Administration or a transition Committee be appointed at least is better.
