The National opinion polls, NOI has released the 2017 opinion polls results on governance with Adamawa state among the ten most rated high in the country.
The opinion indicates that residents of various states rating the job performance of their various state governors.
According to the poll results, nine of the top ten performing state governors in the country as rated by residents of the various states, are in the North. Anambra at number 10 was the only Southern state to break in.
Top 10 :
Katsina (86 percent),
Sokoto and Kano (with 83 percent each),
Adamawa (82 percent),
Zamfara and Jigawa (80 percent each),
Kebbi (79 percent),
Niger (73 percent),
Yobe (71 percent) and
Anambra (66 percent).
Bottom 10 :
Bayelsa (12 percent),
Abia (15 percent),
Delta (18 percent),
Imo (19 percent),
Borno (24 percent),
Kaduna (28 percent),
Kogi (30 percent),
Benue (34 percent),
Bauchi (35 percent) and
Kwara (38 percent).
It should be pointed out though that the poll which is just being released, was conducted in April-May 2017, and it is possible that some things may have changed since then.
President Buhari’s job performance:
The National Poll showed that Nigerians gave President Muhammadu Buhari a job approval rating of 52% – with his highest approval coming from his North West region at 75% and his lowest coming from the South East at 19%.
The poll found that 60% of Nigerians said they were unsatisfied with the president’s handling of the economy. On the other hand, 58% said his anti-corruption war is working.
As usual, it is important to place the caveat that this poll was taken before Nigeria officially pulled out of recession in September 2017, and before allegations of corruption against key members of the president’s cabinet including the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, came out with President Buhari turning a blind eye.
Other ratings :
Nigerians also rated some of the country’s public institutions. Among the better performing ones were:
The Military (72 percent), National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) (65 percent), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) (63 percent),
National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) (61 percent), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) (59 percent.) Meanwhile the Nigerian Police (NP) and Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) were considered the least effective institutions.
