The All Progressives Congress (APC) Adamawa State chapter has issued a scathing rebuke of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of exploiting the recent terrorist attack in Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Government Area, for political gain. In a strongly worded press release, the APC condemned Atiku’s remarks as insensitive, misleading, and a “comedy of errors” that misrepresents the facts of the tragedy.
The statement, signed by Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi, State Publicity Secretary, alleges that Atiku’s response to the attack was a calculated attempt to score political points rather than offer genuine condolences.
“Atiku once again proved that tragedy, for him, is not a moment of sober reflection but a stage for cheap politics,” the release stated, highlighting inaccuracies in Atiku’s account of the attack’s location and casualty figures.
The APC further accused Atiku and the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration, in which he served as Vice President, of laying the foundation for Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
“Atiku, whose tragic failure at leadership contributed immensely to the current insecurity, is now shamelessly using the very monster he helped create to further his wicked and diabolic plan to destabilize the country,” the statement read.
The party also criticized Atiku’s tenure, claiming he neglected Adamawa State, including his hometown of Jada, while prioritizing personal business interests. The APC contrasted this with their current efforts, asserting that under their leadership, “competent, patriotic, and committed hands” are supporting security forces to restore peace.
The APC described Atiku’s remarks as a “callous” and “reckless” politicization of grief, accusing him of being disconnected from the people he claims to represent. The party reaffirmed its solidarity with the victims of the Wagga Mongoro attack, offering condolences to the bereaved and prayers for the injured, while pledging to continue efforts to defeat insurgents.
“The people of Adamawa are not deceived,” the statement concluded. “They know the difference between genuine solidarity and empty posturing. They know who stood with them in their darkest hours – and who is now cynically dancing on fresh graves for political gain.”
The APC’s sharp criticism underscores the deepening political rift in Adamawa as the state grapples with ongoing security challenges and the legacy of past administrations.
