Barrister Idris Shuaibu, the embattled Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, has vehemently rejected allegations of marginalization and exclusion leveled against him by a forum of stakeholders from Mubi North Local Government Area.
In a strongly worded response on Sunday, the state party boss described the claims by the group, led by Abdulrahman Shuaibu (popularly known as Aras), as unfair, misleading, and completely unfounded.
The Mubi North APC stakeholders had accused Chairman Idris of running the party affairs in a dictatorial “one-man show” style, sidelining key stakeholders from the area.
Dismissing the accusations, Barr Idris insisted that since assuming office, he has operated an open-door policy, ensuring that party members across Adamawa State—including those in Mubi North—are fully informed and carried along in all major decisions and activities.
He particularly took exception to a stakeholders’ meeting reportedly held on Saturday at the prestigious Fombina Royal Suite in Yola, which he said was convened without extending any invitation or courtesy notice to him as the state chairman.
”The meeting was neither fair nor transparent,” Idris stated. “None of the organizers deemed it necessary to invite me or even inform me of the gathering. I was away on an official assignment outside Yola, but had I been properly notified, I would have immediately sent a high-powered delegation to represent the state leadership.”
Explaining the absence of Mubi North Local Government party officials from the Yola meeting, the chairman attributed it to strict compliance with a recent directive from the National Secretariat of the APC.
According to him, the national leadership had instructed all party structures to fully concentrate on the ongoing nationwide e-registration exercise.
”The local government officials were actively monitoring and supervising the e-registration process in Mubi North. It would have been a direct violation of the national party’s standing instruction for them to abandon their duties in Mubi and travel to Yola for a stakeholders’ meeting,” he explained.
He added pointedly: “I am very certain that if the meeting had been convened in Mubi North itself, our party officials would have attended in full force. But asking them to leave their assignment in Mubi to attend a meeting in Yola at this critical period would amount to disobeying the clear directive from the national headquarters.”
Sources confirmed to tgnews that the Local Government party officials and their wards leader shunned the meeting organize by the stakeholders for good three basic reasons.
The meeting was called while the are monitoring the e-registration exercise and they cannot leave their place of primary assignment to Yola. One of the meeting’s agenda was also to decide on Congress and how to allocate state delegate among the stakeholders, a reason not suitable for the local party’s officials.
Secretary of the Mubi APC forum, Alhaji Abubakar Sali distanced self and all stakeholders on the initial report that have indicted the State Chairman of the party, Barr Idris Shuaibu.
According to him not of such was discussed and the stakeholders of the party only focused their agenda on the Local government chairman to carry everyone along not the state Chairman.
Sali said that most of the stakeholders also admitted the wrong timing on which the meeting was scheduled considering the ongoing e-registration taking place in the area.
Sources also accused the stakeholders of not showing concern on the ongoing E-registration exercise despite clarion call by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all stakeholders to engage for the exercise.
Reaffirming his commitment to party unity and inclusiveness, Barr Idris Shuaibu stressed that he remains firmly opposed to any form of exclusion or marginalization.
”I run an open-door policy. I believe strongly in the principles of internal democracy, which is the bedrock for strengthening and growing our great party,” he declared. “No one can credibly accuse me of operating a one-man show. Everyone who has worked with me knows I carry people along.”
The chairman called on all APC members in Adamawa—particularly those in Mubi North—to remain focused on the ongoing e-registration exercise and to continue working together for the overall success and victory of the party in the state.
Political analysts say the public exchange highlights lingering tensions within the Adamawa APC ahead of future electoral battles, even as both sides appear committed to maintaining party discipline and unity.
