…..Amira calls for law to prohibit early marriage
Alhaji Iya Aminu Abbas, Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly has assured for children friendly laws for the development of their education, cases of rape and other forms of violence.
Abbas gave the assurance when the children speaker, Amira Abdullahi presented their prayers in the Chamber in commemoration of 2021 International Day of Girl-child on Monday in Yola.
He said that the house would look into their prayers for them to succeed in the future.
In her address, Amira Abdullahi, 13 years old, JSS II at Government Junior Secondary school Luggere Yola-North urged the house to enact an early marriage Prohibition bill that would stop parents from given them out for marriage at least until after secondary School.
She pleaded with the state assembly to give the Child Protection law a speedy passage as it has already passed the first reading.
“Mr speaker Sir, we plead with you and your colleagues to ensure that girls are protected from cases of rape and other forms of child abuse done to girls in Adamawa State.
“Also education needs increased budgetary allocation, and the seven assembly can do more in supporting the Education Committee to achieve this”,
“ Mr speaker, we appreciate the effort of the seven assembly in passing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP), law and other education friendly laws.
“We the children of Adamawa State we have confident on you in addressing our concerns”.
She further expressed the need for support and employment opportunities in to key positions to women to serve as mentors to girls in the state.
Abdullahi was among the 50 students train on digital innovation by UNICEF as part of activity for the commemoration of 2021 celebration .
