First Woman to drive a train in Nigeria, Mrs. Sarah Abiara cried for being redundant since she was transferred from Lagos to Bauchi three years ago.
Sarah who is an indigene of Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa state worried that the skills acquired are wasting in Bauchi where trains are not operational.
She said while in Lagos her daily trips from Lagos to Ibadan, or Ibadan to Offa or Lagos to Offa in Kwara state is a worthwhile experience she wants to maintain to serve her father’s land.
Sarah in an interview with our correspondent in Yola complained that since she left the Nigerian railway corporations training school in Zaria, Kaduna State, and posted to Lagos where she had few years of experience of driving, she feels redundant coming down to Bauchi as a train driver.
“I’m the first train driver in the entire country, and we are few as women in this profession who need to be encouraged to build a good career out of the profession.
” It’s out of a passion I joined this Noble work, this adage that says what a man can do, a woman can do also even better in so many instances records have proven that.
“I’m pleading with the authority concern to help us as women in the railway corporations to work for our father’s land better.” She said
