A letter addressed to the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency, Garki Abuja NITDA by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa State chapter has faulted the sitting of
Digital Economy Centre (DEC) office at the Secretariat of Muslim Council of Adamawa State.
The office along Lamido Lawalu Road, Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State is CAN in the state being complained as it is calculated to favor a particular religious group at the detriment of others.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa State chapter wishes to bring to your attention our displeasure over the siting of Digital Economy Centre (DEC) Office at the Secretariat of Muslim Council of Adamawa State along Lamido Lawalu Road, Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The letter which was signed by Adamawa CAN Director of legal and public affairs,Thomas Egwuje Esq, copied the Presidency,through the Secretary to Government of the Federation, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Executive Governor, Adamawa State, the Brigade Commander, Nigeria Army, Yola and the Commissioner of Police Adamawa State Command.
They also copied the Director, Department of State Security Service,the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the President Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) calling on federal government to have a neutral location to site the office.
According to the letter the act is discriminatory to say the least as it is calculated to favour a particular religious group at the detriment of others.
“There is no gain saying that Nigeria is a country with multi-religious set up and so no action or policy of the Government should be made intentionally to favour only one religion at the detriment of others as in this particular instance.
“It is on this note that we the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa State Chapter wishes to state that we vehemently reject the siting of the Centre at the Secretariat of Muslim Council Adamawa State. We demand that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) re-locates the Digital Economy Centre (DEC) Office from the Secretariat of Muslim Council of Adamawa State to a neutral location immediately and without delay in the interest of peace. The Christians in the State have had a cordial and peaceful relationship with their Muslim counterparts over these past years and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa State Chapter will not accept any divisive Government policy that will jeopardize this state of harmony and peaceful coexistence.
