Adamawa organized Labour have released a strike bulletin of an impending strike to commence on 17th February,2020 as negotiations went on deadlocks between the State Government and the trade union.
The organised union said they are in a struggle for the actualisation of the 2019 new national minimum wage consequential adjustment in the state.
The organised labor while commending the state government for implementing the wage from grade level 01 to grade level 06,they however said the are disappointed with the way the state government is handling the consequential adjustment negotiations for those in grade level 07 to 17.
The impending strike have made so many civil servants in the State to go on massive food stuff purchase as our reporter observed in the Jimeta mordern Market.
According to our reporter Civil servants in the State have started shopping in earnest ahead of the impending strike as a collapsed dialogue between labour and the government side headed by the Head of service,Dr.Amos Dauda which was held on Tuesday at the state Secretariat.
The organised labour handed the one day strike notice by Chairman,joint public negotiating council, Comrade Baba Gurin Tuki, following a parallel submission by the two parties.
A senior civil servants who simply said her name is Abigail seen buying food stuff in bulk lamented the deadlock of the negotiation between the State Government and the trade union.
According to her, the bulletin released by the trade union is serious,the strike is coming unabated and the best she can do is to stock her house with enough food stuff and wait for the end of the strike.
The bulletin revealed that there is liberal approach to the issue by the leadership of trade union side, the state government did not see that but instead decided to deliberately frustrate the efforts of the machinery put in place to arrive at an amicable resolution.
“We are not unaware of the pronouncement of the state government at Numan during a town hall meeting held on the 8th February,2020 promising payment of the consequential adjustment in the state by the end of this month.
“It is clear to the trade union side that mandate to negotiate with trade union, the consequential adjustment from levels 07 and above was not given to the Government side. We wasted our valuable time and resources only to discovered at the end that the State Government rejected the positions of both the trade union side and that of the Government side which is very unusual in collective bargaining process.” The bulletin read
