In an effort to mitigate the resultant effect of Climate Change, HEDA Resource Center has embarked on a community outreach to KOH Community in Girei Local Government Area.
The outreach has been carried out in order to amplify the voices of KOH being a frontier community that has been affected by seasonal flooding.
KOH is a riverine Community on the bank of river Benue .The basic activity of the residents is farming, fishing and rearing animals like cows, goats, sheep, and pigs.
A delegation of HEDA Resource Center from Abuja visited the community for assessment and sensitization on Flooding which is experienced on yearly basis.
The HEDA team engaged the ward Heads , village head, youth and women groups in the community to a roundtable discussion to hear views and opinions of the community with respect to the flooding which is been experienced on yearly basis.
The people lamented that the effect of flooding in the area usually resulted in the destruction of Farmlands, residential houses and sometimes loss of lives.
Elder Elisha W. Jagaba is the Village head of KOH Community.
He narrates the ordeals experienced in the community during the flooding season saying, they have no where to go except KOH the Land of their forefathers as most of the villages they can take shelter during the flooding season are usually characteristics by pastoralist activities which have greater effects on them.
It could be recalled that the Koh community is one of the villages that suffered an attack in 2016 as a result of pastoralists and farmers conflict in Adamawa State.
