A chilling account of harassment, physical assault, and death threats has emerged from Jambutu Jimeta in Yola North Local Government Area, as Suleiman A. Abubakar, a concerned citizen, files a formal petition with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Adamawa State Office.
The accused, Hassan Jafaru, the District Head of Daware (Hakimin Daware), and his unnamed driver, whose alleged actions have ignited calls for justice and accountability.
According to Abubakar’s petition, the incident unfolded on March 12, 2025, at approximately 7:29 p.m. near Gate One of the Jimeta Ultra Modern Market, close to the popular Bornoma Suya Spot. Abubakar claims he witnessed Jafaru and his driver recklessly driving a Hilux vehicle, striking a young boy selling sobo and kunun from a wheelbarrow. When Abubakar intervened to confront the pair, the situation escalated dramatically.
“They became aggressive,” Abubakar recounts. “They dragged me out of the KekeNapep I was in, insulted me, and assaulted me.” The petition details a brutal attack: Jafaru’s driver allegedly slapped Abubakar twice, while the District Head himself threatened to kill him, boasting that he would not allow Abubakar to leave the scene alive. In the chaos, Abubakar’s prayer beads (Islamic tasbih) were destroyed, and he lost his Red Cross ID card and a wallet containing ₦75,630.
The aggression didn’t end with the assault. Abubakar alleges that Jafaru and his driver issued chilling threats, claiming they had “marked his face” and vowing further harm. “This has left me in a state of fear and anxiety,” Abubakar writes, emphasizing the toll on his sense of safety and wellbeing.
In his petition, Abubakar accuses the District Head and his driver of violating his fundamental human rights as enshrined in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, including his right to life (Section 33), dignity (Section 34), and freedom from torture (Section 34).
He is now seeking urgent intervention from the Legal Aid Council, requesting free legal assistance to pursue justice, protection from further harassment, and accountability for the alleged perpetrators.
“I humbly request that Hassan Jafaru and his driver be brought to justice for their crimes,” Abubakar pleads, underscoring the gravity of the incident and its implications for his life.
The allegations against a prominent figure like the District Head of Daware have sent shockwaves through the community, raising questions about the abuse of power and the safety of ordinary citizens. As of now, neither Jafaru nor his driver has publicly responded to the claims, and the Legal Aid Council has yet to issue an official statement on the petition.
For Suleiman A. Abubakar, this is more than a personal grievance—it’s a stand against intimidation and impunity. “Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter,” he concludes, hopeful that his voice will be heard.
This medium made serious efforts in getting Hassan’s response. While reacting through telephone conversation, the Monarch said all he knows Suleiman insulted and molested him when his driver drove through the busy road of Jimeta mordern market and a water vendor with a wheelbarrow blocked their way.
According to him, his driver horned to call the attention of the water vendor but gave them deaf ears and he pushed him out of the way for them to have access road.
“But to my surprise the petitioner came out from a tricycle insulting us that we are infringing on people’s rights because we have the power to do that . He raign abusive language.
“It was when he picked up his phone to call on someone to deal with us. That’s when I held him up and insisted that he must call whoever he wants to call and I must see the person. To cut a long story short I saw many petitions against me from all corners and I responded to them exactly the way and manner I’m talking to you.” He Said
The case now rests with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Adamawa State Office,the DSS, Adamawa Police Command, NSCDC and public complaints commission as residents await further developments in this troubling saga.
