Adamawa Embarks on Digital Revolution in Land Administration to Eliminate Delays, Enhance Transparency

In a move to modernise governance and improve service delivery, the Adamawa State Government under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has rolled out a comprehensive digital platform for land administration, aimed at slashing bureaucratic bottlenecks, reducing processing times, and promoting greater accountability.

The initiative forms a key part of the state’s broader digital transformation agenda. Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, Special Adviser to the Governor on ICTs, e-Governance and Policy, led a technical training session for senior officials in the land sector, including representatives from the Ministry of Lands and the Office of the Surveyor General.

Participants comprised the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, the Permanent Secretary, departmental heads, and other key stakeholders.

The training focused on the new fully digitised workflow designed to replace outdated manual processes that have long been plagued by delays and inefficiencies.

Officials were taken through practical modules covering online submission of new land applications, verification procedures, processing of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), ground rent management, and rapid digital searches of land records.

Demonstrations showcased how applicants can now submit, track, and monitor their requests in real time within a unified, transparent system.

Dr. Adamu emphasised that the platform would “simplify processes and significantly improve turnaround time” by minimising human interference and strengthening accountability mechanisms.

The Commissioner for Lands described the reform as a “strategic move” towards modernising the ministry’s operations, while the Surveyor General highlighted the integration of geospatial data for improved accuracy in land mapping and urban planning.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the system would foster better inter-departmental coordination and eliminate duplications.

Participants had the opportunity to test the platform during the session and provided feedback on its usability, reflecting the government’s commitment to an iterative, user-centred approach ahead of full deployment.

Governor Fintiri’s administration expects the digital overhaul to boost the ease of doing business in Adamawa State by accelerating land-related transactions and reducing opportunities for opacity in land allocation.

The reform is also anticipated to attract greater private investment by offering secure, efficient, and transparent land services.

This latest development aligns with ongoing efforts to position Adamawa as a leader in digital governance in Nigeria. By embracing technology, the state aims to build public trust through faster service delivery and more reliable land records.
