Adamawa Flood Crisis: Gov Fintiri Launches 21-Member Relief Task Force to Rebuild Lives

In a swift and decisive response to the catastrophic flooding that ravaged parts of Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has inaugurated a 21-member Relief and Post-Recovery Committee to spearhead immediate aid and long-term recovery efforts for affected communities.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, comprises a diverse coalition of government officials, security agencies, religious leaders, and traditional rulers, reflecting a unified approach to tackling the crisis.

Hon. Awwal Tukur, Secretary to the State Government, will serve as the committee’s secretary, ensuring seamless coordination. Key members include Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, representing Yola South; Bello Hammandiram, Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration; Mohammed Sadiq Wali, Commissioner for Environment; and representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The committee also includes the Chairman of Yola South Local Government Council, representatives from the Muslim Council and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and traditional leaders such as the District Heads of Yola and Bole/Yolde Pate. Governor Fintiri, while inaugurating the committee, charged its members with delivering urgent relief to flood victims and crafting sustainable strategies for post-disaster recovery.

“We are committed to providing relief and support to affected communities and working towards sustainable solutions to mitigate future disasters,” he declared, emphasizing fairness, transparency, and urgency in their mandate. The floods, which displaced countless families and destroyed homes and livelihoods, have left communities in dire need of assistance.

The governor’s proactive response has been hailed as a beacon of hope, with the committee tasked to restore normalcy and rebuild resilience in the face of recurring natural disasters. “This is not just about immediate aid,” Fintiri added. “It’s about restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and ensuring our people are protected from future calamities.”
