Adamawa Flood Disaster Leaves Thousands Displaced, Victims Recount Losses

In every rainy season of the year,Nigeria Hydrological services Agency (NIHSA),and Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) and other agencies saddled with the responsibilities of rain prediction often alert people on the possibilities of flooding or otherwise in the country.

In 2025, the story is not different as the Nigeria Hydrological services Agency (NIHSA), predicted that twelve states in Nigeria are likely to face serious flooding in this 2025 rainy season.

In Yola,the situation is not quite different from other predicted areas as those who resides within the flood prone areas have started counting their losses.

Shagari lowcost is an area that housed over ten thousand people in Yola South local government area of Adamawa State.
The people of the area are still counting their losses from what some said is a breakage of water reservoir escalated by the mining company that causes the flooding which destroyed lives and properties in the area,while another version said it is a flood that usually comes in the area that has caused the havoc.

Going by the latest prediction by the Nigeria Hydrological services Agency (NiHSA),that the situation would be more divastating in the month of September have started affecting people leaving around the flood prone areas.
Last week, yola and neighboring local government areas have witnessed a torrential rainfall that forced people to leave their houses to safer places,some went to their relatives houses while others have settled at refugee camp provided to them by the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) in Girei LGA.

TG News has interviewed some victims at the camp when they narrates their ordeal.

Mallam Musa is a father of six and he based in unguwan Tana in Yola north.He said flood has taken over his house and belongings,that he and his family don’t have where to sleep and what to eat hence,the decision of retire to the camp.

Also another victim,Amina Sadi,a single mother of two said they were asleep at night when the flood wakes them up and they lost all their belongings due to the flood and had no where and no one to turn to. She said that the only option she has was to relocate to the camp in other to shelter her sons and their safety.

Though,the victims of the flood where evaporated from the camp by the Adamawa State Government to their various homes.Tuesday, at this period when the Nigeria Hydrological services Agency (NiHSA)predicted that flood might likely occur again.

It could recalled that floods has caused serious havoc in the said areas in 2023 where lives and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Government at all levels must take a proactive measures by providing a permanent site in other to relocate the affected people so as to avoid stories capable of touching the heart.
