Adamawa govt is committed to protecting education from attack -commissioner

The Adamawa State government said is seriously committed to protecting education from attack for grooming future leaders in Nigeria.

The government said this through its commissioner of Education, Mrs. Wilbina Jackson.

She stated this at the commemoration of 2022 International Day for the protection of education against attack organized by the Education in Emergency (EIE) group on Friday in Yola.

The commissioner who was represented by Dr. Salihi Atique, Chairman of Adamawa Universal Basic Education (ADSUBEB), said the state education had its share of attacks against education by insurgency.
“The state is fast recovering from the revenge of this insurgence which has greatly affected students either as victims or survivors of the conflict.

“But thanks to the foresight of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri who has understood that the overall philosophy of education is to articulate on strengthening the education managers to provide the impactful and secured environment for our children to learn”, she said.

She adds a lot of successes were recommended among which are the empowerment of 2,000 teachers, providing free quality education to encourage students, and reducing hardship on the parents as the result of insurgency.

In his remarks, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, Executive Secretary of Mass Education, advised all stakeholders to join hands to protect education against attack, saying government alone cannot do it.

He said no country will develop without education and in most developed countries the key to success is education.

According to him, 90 percent of the problems in Nigeria if education is protected and promoted.

Mr. Abdulkadir Garo, Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed their commitment to ensuring protection education against attack in the state and county at large.

Garo represented by the Command spokesperson SC Dimas Billed said saving education from attack is one of their mandate of protecting lives and property in the state and county at large.
