Adamawa govt partners NGO to ensure food security through Farmers entrepreneurship skills

The Adamawa government says it will collaborate with a non governmental organisation (NGO), Synergos to build farmer entrepreneurial skills in agricultural value chain, enhance food security.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Dora Augustine, stated this during the inaugural meeting of the project technical team in Yola.

The farmer entrepreneurial skills programme is being implemented with support of the Mercy Corps Nigeria.

She said the project would improve agricultural productivity and livelihood of small holder farmers for sustainable social and economic development in the state.

The Country Director of the group, Mr Victor Adejo, said the project was designed to provide farmer support services, build their enterprising skills to encourage agricultural processing and value addition.

He said the meeting sought to develop a long-term working relationship amongst stakeholders in the agriculture sector to fast track delivery of key priority areas.

“The forum will serve as a vehicle to effectively address bottlenecks hindering the smooth running of the agricultural sector.

“It will also enhance effective and collective decision-making to strengthen and promote agricultural value chain,” he said.

He said the objective was to bring actors together with the purpose of building a shared vision of desired future for agriculture.

Also, AbdulHafiz Sanyaolu, an official of the Mercy Corps said the programme was being implemented in 23 local government areas across four states in the Northeast.

He said the project focuses at market system development approach to promote agricultural value chain.
