The Adamawa government is to build an airport in Mubi area of the state.
Gov Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa made the disclosure on Monday while conducting round the official of the Federal Ministry of Transportation at the proposed site for the project in Mubi.
He said that the project would bring multiple socio economic benefits to the state.
The governor said that the project would boost the economy of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.
He said that the project would equally attract an Air Force base for security surveillance within Mubi area and its neighborhood.
Bindow also said that the airport project would enhance transportation of goods within and outside Nigeria.
He noted that the activities of insurgents had impacted negatively on Maiduguri which was hitherto commercial nerve centre for the North East geopolitical zone.
He said that commercial activities had shifted to Mubi informing the decision by the state government to build the airport.
He also said that the project would be funded through the Public Private Partnership (PPP)
According to him, two investors have already indicated interest to partner with the state government on the project.
He thanked the Federal ministry of transportation for its approval of the technical team on site evaluation of the project.
In his remark, Capt Talba Alkali, leader of the team from the Federal ministry of transportation said that the team was in the area to conduct physical assessment of the site.
Alkali said that the site was cleared from all physical encumbrances that could hinder the project.
He also said that the technical team would work together state government consultants on the technical evaluation of the project
He urged the officials of the state ministry for Land and Survey to furnish the team with more topographical details of the site.
Alkali said that the move by the state government was inline with the Nigerian Aviation Act 2006 which allows individuals, state governments and Federal governments to own Airport.
According to him, by this Act, the ministry is duty bond to consider your application.
“This project will add tremendous value to the nation’s aviation industry. Earlier, Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammed, Permanent Secretary from Works in the state said the project site covered six kilometres square.
He said that the width was 3.2 while the runway measurement was 2.4. He said that the critical aircraft was Boeing 7.37.
Reports that the ministerial technical team comprises of one each from Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigeria Airspace Management Authority.
Through the State ministry of land and survey a six kilometers area of land was located for the purpose and a Site evaluation by a team of expert was done in the area.
