Adamawa-based lawyer Barrister Shagnah Pwamaddi has lambasted Adamawa State Chairman Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for postponing the scheduled December 2021 local government polls.
Alhaji Isa Shettima who is the Chairman of the Adamawa State electoral body (ADSIEC) Shagnah said his actions are ultra vires, unlawful, illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void as same is undemocratic.
According to Shagnah that the combined provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Adamawa State Electoral Law,2002 are clear on the issue of Local Council leadership which shall be governed democratically elected officials at all times.
“Section 7 of the constitution compels the ADSIEC and any other authority in Nigeria to ensure adherence to the said sacred and sacrosanct provisions of the law by the State Executives who are easily prone to abuse of powers.” He said
Barr. Pwamaddi warned that the press release issued by the ADSIEC Chairman on 29 Oct er,2021 is a fiction of his imagination dead-on on conception as Alh Isa Shetima lacks the powers to shift Council elections beyond the tenure of office of Council Executives and Legislatures as stipulated by the law.
He further reiterated the resolve of the Coalition of Political Parties, Civil rights groups, and well-meaning citizens to confront this demonic attempt by the ADSIEC Chairman, Alh. Isa Shetima to truncate the people’s mandates at tgrassrootsoot must be resisted at all cost.
