The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Adamawa state council, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan has urged members of the union to promote and uphold the course of their professional engagement.
He made the call during a supposedly congress of the union which was converted into briefing that took place at the Press Centre Yola.
Comrade Dedan who reminded the members of their constitutional roles of informing and enlightening the public, charged the journalists to live up to their constitutional mandate.
The state council chairman drew the attention of the members on their vulnerability in the society hence he counselled them to watch out in their engagement both official and nonofficial.
Ishaka Dedan cautioned the NUJ member against all forms of bitterness, disaffection, malice and resentment and be patient with one another.
Comrade Dedan apologized to the members for not holding the usual end of the year gathering this year attitude attributing it lean resources at the union’s disposal.
He disclosed the donation of an Air Conditioner to the union by the member representing Jada, Mayo-belwa, Ganye and Toungo in the house of representatives, Alhaji Abdulrazak Namdas.
Corroborating, the Vice President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Northeast zone, Comrade Baba Zare admonished the members to demonstrate high send of responsibility and patriotism towards the council’s betterment.
Questions and answers were featured during the briefing as well as a one-minute silence in respect of one of the members who died recently, Director New, Pulako FM, Abubakar Mohammed Dasin.
” It is unbecoming of a professional Journalist to report unverifiable issues (gravevine) particularly the posting of fake news(death) of a high profile Personality like Professor Jibrin Aminu on this reputable platform.
“Such kind of media erosion will no longer be tolerated even though the affected member tendered an apology after misleading people.” He said
