The Yola North Branch of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Adamawa on Monday announced the commencement of the First Edition of the Inter Primary School Competition tagged ‘Comrade Rodney Nathan ‘s cup in Yola.
Alhaji Mohammed Mailapsy, Chairman of the branch said that the opening ceremony would hold on Feb. 22, 2018 at the Capital School Jimeta -Yola in Adamawa.
Mailapsy, who is also the chairman of the Local Organising Committee said that the gesture was to show appreciation to the current state chairman of the union, Comrade Rodney Nathan for his selfless service to the teachers in the state.
He also said that the competition would promote unity among diverse socio ethnic, religious background in the area.
He gave assurance that the branch would sustain the spirit for an annual football competition within Yola North local government.
In his remark, Nathan commended the branch for immortalising him.
He described the branch as a pace setter in promoting the union in the state.
The chairman urged both the potential participants in the competition to showcase fairness in all conducts.
He eulogised the Yola North unionist of being liberal especially on union matters.
He also assured the organisers of his readiness to support the tournament to succeed.
He also vowed to defend the teacher with the last drop of his blood.
According to him, this gesture has rekindle my commitment to do my best to ensure that the teacher is not neglected in the scheme of things.
Nathan encouraged the organising committee to equally organise another tournament for the secondary schools immediately after the primary school competition.
Also speaking, Alhaji Sulaiman Alkali, Member representing Yola North State constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly promise to improve all primary schools within his constituency with instructional materials.
Alkali, who was represented by Alhaji Sulaiman Ibrahim, Councillor representing Limawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Council said that he would support every legislation that would improve the welfare of the teachers in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the 24 primary schools within Yola North Local government area were categorised into eight zones.
The representatives of the zones participated in the draws as each of the captains picked his number for match draws.
