About 16,000 people are expected to register in Girei LGA of Adamawa State with Reformed PDP (r-PDP), a faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as membership registration begins across the state.
The Interim Chairman of the r-PDP, Hammajoda Girei, who registered at Girei 1 Ward, said as many as the 16,000 are willing to register as they have lost faith in the ruling party.
Girei enjoined other party members to register with the r-PDP and commended Dr Umar Ardo and Sen Ishaku Abbo for their leadership and encouragement.
He said ward registers and membership cards had been issued to all ward chairmen in the 11 wards for registration of members in the Girei council.
Earlier, Abel Jerome, the party chairman in the council, assured of his commitment to make the party vibrant and ensure new entrants into the party as the registration continues.
Jerome stressed that re-registration of old and new members into the party would reposition the mother party aimed at correcting the past mistakes.
He gave reasons for the faction, which includes ‘illegal dissolution’ of Alhaji Abdulrahman Bobboi-led state executive council of the party by Alhaji Ahmed Markarfi-led National Caretaker Committee.
In his reaction, Barr Tahir Shehu, the state PDP chairman, said the kingpin of the r-PDP, Umar Ardo, was expelled from the PDP at his word in Jada.
Shehu said the allegation of illegal dissolution of the Bobboi-led state exco is baseless, adding that Ardo is undermining a party (PDP) under which he contested as a governorship aspirant.
